Overview of FSSAI

FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) license is mandatory for anyone involved in the manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution, and sale of food products. It ensures the food products undergo quality checks and curtail food adulteration.

Types of FSSAI Registration

Basic Registration
Turnover < ₹12 Lakhs
For small businesses, petty retailers, and startups.
State License
Turnover ₹12 Lakh - ₹20 Cr
For mid-sized manufacturers, hotels, and restaurants.
Central License
Turnover > ₹20 Cr
For large businesses, importers, and multi-state operators.

Responsibilities of FBO

As per the Food Safety Act, 2006, every Food Business Operator must ensure that food articles satisfy the requirements of the Act. They must not sell unsafe, misbranded, or sub-standard food. They must also ensure no employee is suffering from infectious diseases.
